CapCut vs erase.tools for removing text from video
CapCut removes text two ways: an AI Remove tool that rebuilds the background, and a manual method its own tutorial teaches that crops a clean frame over the text. Both need the desktop app installed. erase.tools does one job in the browser — you box the text, the pixels behind it are rebuilt, and the export keeps its original resolution with no watermark added.

The short answer
Use CapCut when
Use CapCut if you are already editing in it, if your clip runs longer than 90 seconds, if the footage must stay on your own machine, or if you need to remove a person or a real object rather than an overlay burned into the picture.
Use erase.tools when
Use erase.tools if you want one overlay gone without installing anything, if the export has to come back untouched outside the box you marked, or if you have a batch of clips carrying the same watermark in the same place.
CapCut publishes two methods, and they are not equal
This is worth knowing before you start, because CapCut's own guide sends most people to the weaker of the two. Both are documented on capcut.com, and both are linked at the foot of this page.
AI Remove — the one you want
This is genuine inpainting. CapCut describes it as advanced inpainting that reconstructs the missing background by blending surrounding pixels. It is the right tool for text over a moving shot, and it is the method to use if you stay in CapCut.
- 1Install the CapCut desktop editor. AI Remove is not in the browser version.
- 2Open CapCut, click Create project, then Import and drop your clip on the timeline.
- 3In the right panel, go to Video, then Basic, then AI remove.
- 4Brush over the text. Adjust the brush size for tighter edges, and use Erase to correct a mistake.
- 5Click Remove, then Export, choosing your bitrate, resolution, codec and format.
Freeze and crop — what the CapCut tutorial actually teaches
CapCut's own article on removing text, updated 31 August 2026, teaches a different method: freeze a frame, crop a clean region out of it, and lay that patch over the text. It works when the background behind the text is static. It fails as soon as the camera moves, because a frozen patch sits still while the rest of the frame travels. Nothing is rebuilt here — the text is covered.
- 1Play the clip and find a segment where the text is not on screen.
- 2Use Freeze above the timeline to hold that frame.
- 3Crop the frozen frame down to the clean area you want to borrow.
- 4Position that patch over the text and blend the edges.
- 5Export.
The same job in erase.tools
One capability, no timeline, nothing to install. The pixels behind your mark are rebuilt from the frames either side of it, and every pixel outside the mark passes through untouched.

Where erase.tools loses
Naming these is what makes the rest of this page worth reading. If one of them describes your job, use CapCut.
- · A clip over 90 seconds or over 500 MB is refused outright.
- · It does not remove a person or a real object from a moving scene. It removes overlays burned into the picture: text, captions, subtitles, watermarks, logos and timestamps.
- · Video files are uploaded to our servers to be processed. CapCut states its object remover works locally. If the footage cannot leave your machine, that is a real reason to choose CapCut.
- · A watermark covering most of the frame, or sitting over a face or fine detail, will not rebuild cleanly. There is not enough surrounding picture to work from.
- · There is no public API, so scripted bulk work is not possible.
- · It is not a video editor. No timeline, no transitions, no captions, no grading.
How the other editors handle the same job
CapCut is rarely the only tool considered. These are the usual alternatives for removing text, captions, subtitles and watermarks from video, and where each one is the better answer.
